New Leader Integration
HRMC's New Leader Integration (pre-/on-boarding) process is based on our extensive experience in organizational development and the application of those principles to the initial job experience of a new executive.
The statistics point to the need. Some studies suggest that 40% of executives will not last 18 months on the job--and 18% won't make it through the first year. Another suggests that under the best of unaided circumstances, it takes a new executive 6.2 months to begin adding, versus consuming, value. Assuming a qualified executive is recruited, pre-boarding can positively impact these statistics by ensuring that the new leader hits the ground running--literally working with his/her team in problem solving--on day one!
The pre-boarding process includes:
Step 1: Offer Acceptance
As soon as an offer is accepted, our practice leader will begin planning and coordinating the integration phase of pre-boarding and then launch the process.
Step 2: On-Site Interviews
This phase lasts two to three days and consists of face-to-face structured interviews with all of the stakeholders--supervisor (or board), peers, and all direct reports.
Step 3: Report Preparation and Distribution
All of the information collected during the interviews is packaged in a detailed report, which is sent to the incoming executive for scrutiny and to help prepare for our one-day debriefing.
Step 4: Report Debriefing
HRMC will meet with the new leader for an entire day to review the report in depth, answer his/her questions, and provide insight gathered during the interviews. We also prepare for the kick-off meeting that will occur on the start date.
Step 5: Kick-Off Meeting
Our practice leader will facilitate a half-day kick-off meeting on the morning of the first day of work that will address priorities and concerns identified during the interviews. Problem solving begins immediately. A team is well on the way to forming by noon.
Step 6: Follow-Up
We follow up with the new leader after 30 days and the process ends.
