Joseph R. Wolf, 1929 - 2006
When the outplacement industry was in its infancy, Joe Wolf was considered a pioneer when he established the first firm in St. Louis, Human Resource Management Corporation. At the time, the process was relatively unknown except in major cities on the East and West Coasts and Chicago. By 1990, HRMC was the largest independent career transition firm in the St. Louis metropolitan area, serving many major firms and industries locally and in the Midwest. HRMC later partnered with two major international career transition organizations, making it possible to serve clients globally. Over the years, HRMC has expanded beyond career transition to numerous other human resource areas and continues today as a prominent leader in the industry.
Before founding HRMC in 1982, Joe was a member of the Naval Reserves from 1951 to 1957. A native of St. Louis, he received a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Louis University in 1960. Joe was an executive with Chase Candy Company, Rice Stix Inc., and M.S.D., before joining Angelica Corporation, where he served as Vice President of Human Resources for 21 years. He became part owner of Keystone Container Corporation in 1978, and remained active on the Board and in a management advisory role until 1990 when it was sold to Jefferson Smurfit.
Joe was active in a number of civic, charitable, and human resource organizations and served in leadership positions for several of them. He was a longtime member of Greenbriar Hills Country Club, as well as many other local business and social organizations.
Joe traveled extensively, visiting every state in the Union, nearly every island in the Caribbean, and over 65 countries worldwide.
Joe retired in the mid-1990’s and served as Chairman in a limited role. His son, James G. Wolf, is President and currently heads the organization.
